After stunning releases of 'The Jayhawkers' and more recently 'Valley of Gwangi' will it ever be possible to track down the original tapes of the session recordings of the dozen or so episodes of Wagon Train for which Moross wrote the incidental score? There may, of course, be copyright issues here since some of the Wagon Train music (particularly the theme) originally appears in the Jayhawkers. Moross readily owned up to his self-plagiarasim but his music for this series is most certainly worth an outing. Of particular note, in my opinion, is his score for 'The Stagecoach Story' - the series 3 opener. I'd consider getting in touch with NBC myself but I wouldn't know where to start!

Wagon Train would make a fantastic 4-CD set a la LLL's Wild Wild West set. In addition to all of Moross's fine work on the show -- which I would want to have ALL of (IMDb credits him for five episodes) -- there are of course also works by the other following wonderful film composers (using IMDb as my guide):
Jerry Goldsmith (two episodes: The Ah Chong Story and The Wagon Train Mutiny)
Lalo Schifrin (one episode)
Leigh Harline (one episode)
John Green (one episode)
Gerald Fried (one episode)
Frank Skinner (one episode)
Frank DeVol (one episode)
William Lava (one episode)
Herman Stein (one episode)
David Raksin (one episode)
Daniele Amfitheatrof (one episode)
Jeff Alexander (two episodes)
Alexander Courage (two episodes)
Laurindo Almeida (two episodes)
Hans J. Salter (three episodes)
Nathan Van Cleave (three episodes)
Ernest Gold (four episodes)
Heinz Roemheld (five episodes)
John Williams (six episodes)
Roy Webb (seven episodes)
Lynn Murray (seven episodes)
Morton Stevens (eight episodes)
David Buttolph (nine episodes)
Cyril J. Mockridge (eleven episodes)
Richard Shores (twelve episodes)

There are also other names familiar to me (though sometimes more as orchestrators): Jack Marshall, Arthur Morton, Al Sendry, Al Woodbury, Conrad Salinger, Leo Shuken and Jack Hayes, Nathan Scott, Stanley Wilson, and Sidney Fine (with the record at 25 episode credits)

And some less familiar names (who knows, their music might be wonderful also!): Axel Stordahl, Tak Shinda, and Henri Rene.

On second thought...maybe LLL could consider doing a 6-CD set for this show as they did for Mission: Impossible. :)

Some wonderful composers indeed - let's hope the folks at LLL and/or Intrada make superhuman efforts here. Of the orchestrators you mention, Salinger worked with Moross as did Courage; also Shuken and Hayes were great collaborators with Elmer Bernstein.

I might be the only one here who's heard of Tak Shindo. I have his 1959 recording, Brass And Bamboo.
