That's a really good point. Tony J on the FSM forum posted, "Does Intrada have the capability of sending a mass e-mail explaining this project to all customers who have purchased from them directly? I'm asking because I only found out about the project when I checked the FSM message board a few days ago. I pledged my support right away but would have pledged soooner if I had received an e-mail when the project began. Just saying. Good luck!"

I get occasional mailings from Intrada but I don't recall seeing anything about this that way either. I'll bet a lot of Intrada customers aren't on social media or the forums, so this seems pretty important...

One would think an appeal to such supposed film music loving industry giants as Steven Spielberg and Seth McFarland would net Intrada the final amount to make the goal. What's $10k or so to people with a net worth in the neighborhood of 9 figures or better?

One week to go and now it's crunch time! I just made my pledge -- just so others know, you don't get charged until the 26th (I forgot about this, so really didn't have any reason to wait this long...oops). And even then, you only get charged *if* the project reaches its goal. If you care about getting this score in complete form, I'm sure this will be the only chance you'll have, so don't wait to order it through the Intrada store or you'll probably never get the chance!

I was however very happy to see Doug's recent post here where he reveals that if this initial Kickstarter is not successful, Intrada will try try again.

Quick update for everyone. First, thank you all for supporting! Especially to the crowd at Film Score Monthly...they have been the largest contributors to the campaign. Yes I know there's a lot of bickering and arm chair criticism over there, but they also put their money on the table to support this campaign and their support isn't in question where it counts. I think the price tag to record a score is high and as we all know, the market for golden age scores is a small one. These kickstarters really depend on word of mouth as they are grassroots efforts. Even if we don't cross the finish line, we raised $25K so far. That's a A LOT of money. That's a really good run. We'll keep that mind for the future, but you can see why these projects aren't usually profitable, the audience isn't there even when the label covers the entire cost up front. At least this lets us know the risk up front. Perhaps a new recording of Star Wars will work...

Speaking of 80s scores to cult favorites, I think you have a point because Killer Klowns from Outer Space actually DID get an Indiegogo re-recording campaign, which only made it to 53% (however, since it wasn't dependent on full funding like Kickstarter, it still went forward with a small orchestra):

And sorry to tell you this (it's one of my favorite Williams scores too), but James Fitzpatrick at Tadlow was already interested in a new recording of Dracula, but was told "no" by Williams's people. I suspect the situation would be the same for Intrada. But who knows? Maybe the original tapes will be uncovered someday and we can get a new release of the full film recording.

I've read some useful comments on FSM from $25 donors, so here's a few thoughts from one donating $400. I will donate considerably more -- into the thousands -- but I'm saving the bulk of my hard-earned, long-saved money for film and classical music recording projects to which I'm totally committed. If we're talking about Friedhofer's "Vera Cruz" or Schumann's "Night of the Hunter" or something similarly long-sought, I'll donate far, far more. The score for "Dial M for Murder" sounds interesting but, unlike other scores cited here and at FSM, I've never seen it figure regularly in lists of scores in dire need of re-recording (at least from the perspective of fans). I assume, however, that I will be proven naive and that Hitchcock fans will rally to this cause and make it a big success! As it is, I donated to show good faith (especially given Bill Stromberg's role), even as I remain baffled by the score chosen for re-recording. Just my two cents. Best wishes for this project from one who has given at least something.

Somebody pitched in a nice chunk of change. Hopefully they'll make it afterall.
