Thank you Mr Young (and Intrada) for giving us a most enjoyable listening experience.
This is how soundtracks should be: to the point and created for listening pleasure.
Not double CDs with alternate tracks, extras, and source music which are just overkill.
Hopefully this will be an example for future releases!

Anything Mr. Young does makes my heart soar.

However I vehemently disagree with the last statement you made about the 2 discs. That is your opinion and you are welcome to it, but it is just your opinion. I think scores, especially classic scores (and those of us who truly love them) ARE worthy of the 2 disc releases and they are warranted beyond any opinion of any other.

It's great when composers are left to their own devices and decide how they want their work presented on album, especially in a case such as this where a separate recording session is done to add structure.

However, when the composer is not involved in the production, I say just put it all on the album. I quickly identify what tracks I want for future listening and make my own playlists. It takes me very little time to make tight 45-minute or so presentations out of these mammoth 2-disc sets.

Although I don't completely agree with him, I understand where Jakke is coming from and respect his opinion. There are those who aren't very attached to these scores and just want to put a CD in and listen without care of losing a highlight or two. Listening to many of these lengthy scores can get cumbersome if you don't whittle them down. I'm under the impression that the Intrada producers agree for the most part on a personal level (i.e., not on a business level).

Older scores where the only quality master that exists is that of the original album are often well configured in original album form (and performed in cases of re-recordings) and dead simple to fully enjoy, and I hardly ever listen to film stem-derived tracks when they are tacked on to a pristine sounding album master source.

I’ve been buying soundtracks for over 30 years now and I have scores on multiple CDs that I love.
What I meant (and this is of course my opinion) is that it is not easy for a soundtrack (which also in my opinion, like the movie, should be experienced as a whole) to stay interesting for more than 2 hours.
Quality can be (and in most cases is) lost because of the quantity.
I am very lucky to be able to listen nearly every day to music composed for films. By listening I mean to be able to isolate myself so that I won't be disturbed by my wife, daughter, dog, cell phone, PC…. At those moments I prefer getting high for 30 minutes in the Stone Age than having to listen 30 minutes to not so interesting extras (or music that is exellent for the movie but too functional to be enjoyable without being adapted for CD). It’s very hard for me to keep up with al the movie music being released nowadays. So I try to spend my time as well as I can on what I find interesting. For me not every note recorded is magic and should be on CD. That is like saying that all music composed by a great composer is fantastic. In my opinion, even that same great composer would disagree.
This is of course very personal and I have great respect for all soundtrack fans that can fully appreciate those releases.

Suberb music by Christopher Young, for me, one of his finest scores in his career. And the the way, he represents the music is absolutely outstanding! It´s a pit that is doesn´t get the recognition, it deserves!
