Heck of a reaction to the new Varese release over on the FSM board.

Just curious what you gentlemen think.

It's not been officially announced but the product page is in Google's cache, and includes the complete track listing (not visible on the Varese site atm).



My thoughts? It doesn't interest me, but I don't have a negative opinion of it. Plenty of other stuff like The Dove and He-Man to get excited about.

I suspect the wording of the pre-announcement, though, was unwise: "we have a very big and very historic announcement. It involves a single release, but it's a six CD set! And boy does it have a story to tell! This is one release that has to stand alone."

Typical FSM reaction. The set in total is not for me, but why complain so angrily when there's so much other stuff out there?

The overall concept is interesting, and it would have been much more attractive to me if it had included the full original albums for The Bride, Spies Like Us and Jagged Edge.

I continue to be underwhelmed by Varese and this release is no different. Varese seem pre-occupied by concerts these days. Yawn. Damn shame they show no interest in releasing the big 90s Jerry Goldsmith scores. A real waste.

Patience is all that's needed, I suppose. This set isn't a Club release and Varese is still trickling out "Deluxe Editions." I guess all of this is easy for me to say because I have interest in very few expansions left of scores that the label controls.

As for premieres from the likes of Universal Pictures, I'll just say that there are aspects of Varese's general production values that make me glad Intrada has mostly been at the helm.
