Jewel cases is the only way to go. I no longer purchase CDs that are packaged in digipaks due to not being able to replace the packaging if they become damaged. I own the Indiana Jones set and hate it. If the set or CD will cost more to have the jewel cases, I have no problem with the cost, because I know the CDs will be better protected over time.

Though I agree that jewel cases are easy to replace in case they broke, I have no problem at all with digipaks or mini-lp formats if they are well done (I'm thinking in thick cardboard sleeves, as those for mfsl).

If using digipaks is more convenient for both sides, that's fine for me but, in any case, that won't be a reason not to buy any soundtrack I'm interested in.

In my humble opinion, I would avoid those fat jewel cases (as that for Conan the Barbarian) for a nice digipak or cardboard box, which would allow a much nicer artwork, as it could contain the booklet and a specific artwork for each of the sleeves that contain the discs (lots of examples: think of Universal's Classic Album Selection, that contain 5 cd's in a rigid box with each of the albums represented in a matted gatefold sleeve, or the Rush Sector's box sets).

When looking at CD packaging, my preference for 1 or 2 CD sets is a standard jewel case, however sometimes a more elaborate packaging idea comes about for something extra special.

For a great example of fantastic non-standard packaging, the Lord of the Rings Complete Recordings sets are up there.

I'm actually very flexible in this regard, as long as the packaging is sturdy and good quality, and does a good job of presenting the CDs.

to the original question, Jewel cases are best as if it gets broken, it´s easier to switch out. I gladly pay a few extra $ for the shipping then. It´s often CDs arrive with the clams broken when the package travels around the world and I now that this is impossible to do something about it when packing, and it´s up to the shipping companies , but they toss around with our packages (I´ve seen it up close and it´s a nightmare)
Jewel cases is better for the labels as customers don´t have to send back the CDs and can easy buy new cases for a buck and save everyone the trouble and cost if we/they got damaged cases
