Golly. A Distant Trumpet remains on my current short list with WB. I absolutely love the score. The unyielding back and forth minor to major key low brass rhythm that hammers away is sensational. Ditto the martial trumpet melody that embellishes it. It's a must have!

It's so easy to forget just how great Max Steiner was. I was looking at my old DVD of Helen Of Troy the other day, & what a score! A favourite western score is Distant Drums (a favourite western too). My first job (1966) was at a 8mm movie company, & Distant Drums is one the films they acquired while I was there, & I must have seen it about fifty times (the same with Stagecoach & I can still remember long stretches of dialogue). I'm sure the tapes are long, long gone. Oh for a series of, Max Steiner In The Fifties CD's.
