Isn't it a cool thing to get back to those simple things that once were common for hifi aficionados : to sit down and just focus on the music and just enjoy it ? Instead of being distracted by something else while the music plays in the background...

That's a very cool thing and it is even essential to really listen to some music highly focused. The pity is time allows only so much of it.

I always take time to do that. Listening to my CDs is a priority as high as drinking coffee or smoking a cigarette for others !

You (and I) are lucky to be able to have such time. Not everybody, for various different but important reasons, can dedicate that kind of time to listening. And even myself, who does have the time, and the system to appreciate HD audio, find myself valuing having a portable version of the music, if I want to listen to my music while commuting, whilst at work, or in my car…

Every film music collector can take such time, it's a matter of priorities. I never can listen to music at work, since I don't work in an office. But I do take this precious time when at home.

This Sunday, I'm taking time to just sit and listen to Extreme Close-Up from James Horner. I'm sad for all those who took the time to order it from Intrada and can't take time to listen to it. It's a bliss. Maybe they have prefered another bliss instead.

I'm an extreme fan of surround mixes. I've even gone to the trouble of going through my Blu-ray collection and recording the End Title suites from a few dozen films and burning them onto DVD-A discs in 5.1 or 5.0 at 48K 24 bit. So far I have 27 discs at about 1 1/2 hour length each. Some of the recent releases sound superior to the CD release when properly recorded and mixed for 5.1 by Shawn Murphy or Dan Wallin or Armin Steiner and a few others - of course you only get an overview of the score with cues that were selected by the music editor most likely - but that's enjoyable too.
