I am adamant on seeing a BOX SET - or at least a 2-Disc of JAWS myself.

The 2000 Decca release is the WORST sound quality I have ever heard on a soundtrack, and like many of you have posted - the fact that this is JAWS is appalling. This score deserves the utmost best as only Intrada could give it.

Jaws 2 and Jaws 3-D also deserve something too. 2 needs remastering, completion, and proper film order. 3 needs the actual film score in proper order - as a lot of the LP is re-recording.

Never had an opinion on 4.

You must not have heard too many older scores if you think Jaws is the worst...


...that said it IS pretty bad and in dire need of a release with better sound. If the album is indeed a fully different recording (I don't think I've seen an answer on if it is, or if I've seen it I forgot) then an OST + album release would be fantastic.

Lame joke aside, it's good to know from Doug's comment a while back that the unaltered, original three-channel stereo masters are still kicking and ready to be used properly for a new album. When Universal and UMG will foster a new release is another matter entirely.

Maybe this could be the box set coming up that Roger was asking for packaging feedback on ( since he said it wasn't the recent Elmer set)...it would probably take 5 discs for the complete four scores plus unique album recordings.

I would love to see a two disc set of Jaws! I would also love to see a refurbished Jaws 3 or Jaws: The Revenge due to the fact that the original soundtracks lacks a few cues and film versions

According to Modern Vinyl, via the FSM board, Jaws and E.T. will be reissued on LP February 3rd, courtesy of Geffen Records.

Meanwhile, my CD shelf continues to pine away.

This is one of those cases where my interest diminishes as time goes on. By the time definitive Jaws albums come out, I probably won't care at all.

But, hey, Geffen is releasing the original album on vinyl. Ugh!

I could go on a lengthy diatribe about how these highly popular scores are treated like they are the Ark of the Covenant, and how annoyed I get over music companies and studios waiting for stupid anniversary celebrations to release some things, but I'll keep it to myself.

Jaws was released to theaters forty years ago today. Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies have teamed up to show it on the big screen in select theaters tomorrow, June 21st, as well as on June 24th.
