We have a set coming up and were considering switching to a digipak format. I wanted to get some opinions before we change course.

Personally I prefer a jewel case. If it breaks or gets damaged you can always change it. A digipak you can't.

I could not care any less.

However, I have seen numerous collectors become borderline irate over digipak packaging for whatever hang-ups they may have. Just a word of warning.

67 people have viewed this thread and only 8 people responded to the poll. It's not that hard people!

Just voted. Absolutely MUST vote on jewel cases. To me as a die hard collector, there's nothing neater than all that music squeezed onto a small disc with pristine liner notes in a booklet protected by a plastic case. It's a recipe that can't be perfected any better in my opinion. I'm old school about this, but I've passed on the new Indiana Jones releases exclusively because they're digipaks. I just can't stand the foldout artwork that can easily get damaged and like somebody else said, jewel cases can be replaced. Plus they fit into CD racks perfectly. Great for collectors.

A lot of people will tell me I'm nuts and all that matters is the music, but I think your artwork, liner notes and information about the score are just as important as the music. They're the equivalent of special features on a Blueray or DVD. You can't beat a jewel case to protect all of it. Me personally, I won't buy digipaks and I'd be heartbroken to see the market go head on in that direction. Just my two cents...

Another vote for jewel case, assuming "set" means two discs. Three or more usually mean clamshells, which are terrible.

Cardboard digipaks tend to look and feel cheaper and, depending on the model, can have very tight hubs (I purchased one recently and nearly broke the disc getting it out). On the plus side though, it seems likely they auto disc insert easier and may produce fewer scratches than cases because they fold out flat. I'd actually prefer them for three discs or more. TV-DVD sets are often digipaks and can handle four or five discs wonderfully.

Digi-packs, if done right, can be cool.

Replacing an OOP one, a nightmare!!
Anybody got a replacement case for THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK??

Ummm....Roger....
Where IS the poll???? I can't find it! Just for the record, I DESPISE those "digipak" atrocities, but if can point me in the direction of the poll, I will make my opinion "official"! :)

Never mind.... the damned thing appeared out of nowhere just after I posted the above!

If digipak means mini-lp I say go for it. You'll no doubt recieve many complaints from those who cut their teeth on plastic jewel cases. Sure the case can be changed in the event of damage but take proper care and it won't get damaged. And no accidental press marks on the insert with digipak!
