It's no secret that there is a lot of great TV music out there. There are many fan favorites, including The Six Million Dollar Man, Columbo, The A-Team, Night Gallery, Mission: Impossible, Quantum Leap, Hawaii Five-0, Magnum P.I., and so on.
It seems that the biggest problem holding back releases of these television scores is the idea that it's mostly an all or nothing proposition among collectors. However, I contend that the vast majority are more than happy with just selections instead of the monumental undertaking of producing everything to please a fringe group.
My suggestion is, if possible, to release a series of 2-CD selections of TV music for these fan favorite shows that mostly come from Universal. For example, 2 discs of music from The Six Million Dollar Man, 2 discs of music from Quantum Leap, etc. Additional sets for particular shows could be produced if sales from the previous ones achieve desired results. This is in contrast to Battlestar Galactica, where it seems that all of the music was planned for release right from the beginning, or the Star Trek box that included everything in one shot.
That is just my thinking about an area of soundtracks that seemingly can only be profitable for so long.
