Yeah, lots of positive responses here, but I fear the future is bleaker than that. I really hope CDs stick around, but I'm not sure. With the exception of the Intrada, La La Land, V. Club and FSM CDs, I buy all my soundtracks for 50 cents to $3 at Salvation Army, Goodwill, Flea Markets and bargain days at Newbury Comics. Not sure if people have Newbury Comics out on the west coast, but it's a pop culture store out east that also carries used CDs, DVDs and Bluerays. Anyway, Newbury Comics can barely give their soundtracks away and I usually buy their Varese Sarabande discs used for $3. Considering Varese sells them for $13 on their site, I don't know how they can survive. I feel like the only thing they have going for them is the Club releases. And recently I received an e-mail from Newbury Comics to it's customers basically asking if they should cease to carry DVDs and CDs. That was disconcerting. The fact that I can find them for $1 at Pawn Shops just shows the demand for CDs these days...especially soundtracks.
I REALLY hope CDs don't go away and I pray companies like Intrada stick around, because they're the only ones releasing quality scores and I love the physical copies in my hand. One point someone I had, which I thought was very merited was at some point, CDs will be retro. I agree with that totally. I really think that's why LPs are back right now....cause kids find it cool to spin an old record. That's actually what's keeping some CD/record stores afloat these days.
Another thing not helping is illegal downloading running rampant. This pisses me off to no end, but it is what it is I guess.
