Hi to all. This is my first post in this forum. Here I read some really good comments in the past few months and there are a lot of serious and dedicated collectors in this forum.

Question: I will soon receive a sealed copy of a great score - I do not yet want to spill the beans since I haven't received the package yet, but you can always take a wild guess which one it could be ;-)

- anyway, I actually intend to open the holy thing because I really want to listen to it. I want to copy it to my ipod as well.

Since I will soon own it on a CD I could also try to get it via digital download (which I despise for my soundtrack collection, I want to have it "for real"), then I would not need to open it. So if I unseal it then what will happen?

Oh, and I ask this question because it was mentioned before on this thread that a seald copy is worth more than an unsealed one. I was just wondering what the opinions are. Will I fry in hell? Thanks

You'll fry in hell by getting a copy of The Last Starfighter and never listening to it. I mean in what world we live in, to buy a very expensive CD if it's not to open it and listen to it but instead download it ?... Nonsense to me ! :shock:

Sealed : it'll have more value for reselling
Unsealed : it'll have more value for your ears

So what's more important in music : money or your ears ?

Personally, I would open it and enjoy it. It's an amazing soundtrack that deserves to be listened to. I have soundtracks in my collection ranging between £50-£200 which are sealed...and the issue of opening them up or letting them go becomes a little more severe. As others have already stated...sealed copies always command more money. But if its a soundtrack you really love...then open it and enjoy the fact you are the ONLY owner of it. There is no point being buried with your music collection...its there to be enjoyed.

All of my sealed soundtracks are destined to be opened. Hope that makes you feel better

To answer your question....by opening the CD it will probably drop £5-£8 in value.

If you wanted to sell it on...you'd easily get £20+ for it. So the 'hit' would be minimal in this case.

Very nice Jago! Thanks. With only a split second of hesitation I have opened it. Almost everything is fine. I noticed that the printing on the disc itself is not perfect. The second "T" in STARFIGHTER has some transparent spots instead of the blue filling. The blue filling is also all over the place around "SAFAN".

On the backside you have the credits of the film and it is just the 4 main actors and 5 crew (incl. composer and director) names. But just the names. No function as in "Directed by" Nick Castle etc.

Does anyone who owns the disc have the same imperfections? Can you give me feedback?

I am just wondering, other than that, it is an original Intrada CD and it plays well.

Glad you got it....actually I was quite suprised it arrived so quickly considering it was posted on the 14th

What you are describing sounds like a slight printing defect. I expect some other owners here will have the same thing.

I have noticed defects on other CD's (The Goonies, The 'Burbs, Raw Deal) which actually led me to think I'd bought some dodgy bootleg. The front inlay was mottled with strange white spots, the back inlay had chewed up edges and the CD had some missing print. These were all limited run CD's (less than 3000 ever made)...so they weren't massed produced. Given the numbers...the liklihood of receiving one which was new (but less than perfect) increases quite dramatically. Put another way...if a manufacturing plant made 100,000 CD's....I would think atleast a 1000 would get rejected for imperfect printing etc. On these short run soundtrack CD's we buy....I don't think any of them get rejected.

I genuinely hope you enjoy your CD. It is an official Intrada release...which Im sure others here will verify for you.

Yes indeed it was deliverd very fast. But Brits and Swiss get along very well and therefore the mail just flows... ;-)

You are right, nothing to worry about. And the booklet smells "old" so i am convinced anyway....

My next mission will be getting "PSYCHO II" on CD (I got it on Vinyl since when it came out). But I am hearing that INTRADA is working on a release of II and III. So I am not sure whether I shall pay a high market price for the Varese or just wait until someone re-releases it.

Anyway, have you checked out VAMP? Do you know/have the score?
