Not a great film in my humble, and modest opinion. But the score - I read horror novels to it! What a great and fun horror score. Not wide in it's range but man, does it have it's moments!
I was wondering, if anybody caught the mix differences between the Varese cd and the score as it appears in the film. The CD seems to be mixed as if it was recorded in concert, versus the score in the film which sounds like...well...film score!

I'd love a new, complete release of this score, with the film version of "The Photo Album."

Twould be nice to hear more of the score (and not have to watch the movie again to hear it!). I don't recall differences from the album and film mix, but I'm sure there are.

This is one of my favorite Goldsmith scores, which is ironic because the first time I heard it I hated it. Not the music, per se, but how it WASN'T the horror score I wanted it to be.

Now, here is the reason that Goldsmith is my favorite composer of all. The Haunting was, indeed, a horror film in the traditional sense. Goldsmith, however, didn't bother with the film as a whole. He scored the music for the characters. Lonely, outcast. He scored the children, whose final appearance is breathtaking. His music was the underscore of the entire film, which made the horror that much more horrific (or would have if the film had been any better).

Goldsmith's main title theme is particularly haunting (sorry), even for him. Not my favorite period of his but between this score and HOLLOW MAN from the same era, you could almost feel like the old Jerry was still alive and well.
