I clicked on the artwork, and it redirected me to some "your request is downloading" spam page.

I think there's something going on with DNS redirection or something.

That alternate main title certainly is interesting.

You know, ususally I have SOMETHING to complain about, but outside of thasilly little song that I probably don't "need", this release looks perfect. Great sound too (surely at least a little better than the original, despite being digital).

And it's MAF too. Great year ending 'bang' I'd say.

Just a question: Are the alternates different takes, or editied in some way, or what?

I know the Main Title (Alternate) is the original Main Title with the TOS theme, later replaced with what we hear in the film.

The other cues are likely differet takes/versions of cues, sometimes with different lengths, and some album edits of cues.

The mp3 samples show that the horrible, flat sound of the original album has been utterly transformed. It's a huge, huge difference gives the orchestra clarity and lots of oomph. The sound was so poor on the original release that I always assumed it was a smallish orchestra (say, 40 players or less) and I was stunned when Jeff Bond's book mentioned over 90! At last we can hear them!

Incidentally, it just occured to me: it's kind of cool that this particular score is being released by the soundtrack label based in San Francisco.

Yes, hopefully STVI will be done as nicely as this....with no repitition...

Very nice to hear this sounds a lot better than the original too (I can't tell too well with my $20 headphone I gotta use for travelling, plus I haven't heard the original in years, only the 'Astral Symhpony' disc).

And again, praise be that it's a MAF. Don't have to worry about it selling out by tonight...

Regarding the two artwork comments made in this thread:

First - Addressing the 'redirect' someone got earlier. I do not post the artwork until AFTER the announcment. Sometimes that is minutes, sometimes hours. Last night was hours - so yes you were directed because there was no artwork on our site.

Second - If a CD has two 'titles' (and there is artwork for both) we will post the artwork for both titles. If the CD is a single title I am only posting the front cover.
