I guess I'm inclined to agree with you... there is just something about The Road Warrior that gets my blood a'boiling.

I really should start a Brian May thread someday. He has some amazing work to be heard.

Agreed! The Road Warrior is one of the best action scores ever written. Brian May was a master (and taken from us far too early).

I actually watched this film again a few weeks ago (for the first time in years) and it hasn't dated at all. Its just as thrilling and visceral as it ever was. A shame the original album offered such a paultry selection of music (and added stupid sound effects). Cues like Max's hike over the mountain, his return to the compound in the truck, and most of the climactic chase music was all missing!:x

Barring an expanded soundtrack of Road Warrior, a re-recording, if done properly, would be very welcome.

While I was greatly disappointed May did not score Thunderdome (apparently at the studios's behest) I do love Maurice Jarre's score. It too was badly represented on disc (and his original main and end titles were never heard outside the session). Hopefully masters of this score at least are still extant.

Paul

True. Was also talking about the Varese issue, never have seen a UK release until now. Will search this one

how do you know that Thaxton knows the masters are discarded?

I suppose if the fourth installment "Fury Road" ever happens, would be curious to know who'd be the composer? I heard John Powell's name was associated at one point when the film appeared to be a go-ahead.

I'd personally love to see either Bennett Salvay or Christopher Gordon take a shot at scoring. Thoughts?

Matt

By the way, for those of you who really dig Brian May's style for THE ROAD WARRIOR, I recommend checking out Prometheus' great sounding DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR.

I guess I'm in the majority for favorite movie [ROAD WARRIOR] and the minority for favorite score [MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME]. Didn't somebody say that's what makes horseraces?
