Just listened to CD-2, the rerecording, and it is magnificent beyond words. This is a must have CD for anyone who loves Goldsmith and or the superlative "Patton".

This is also a perfect example of analyzing Goldsmith's music as performed in Los Angeles and then in London during the period of the '70s.

As with CAPRICORN ONE, and DAMIEN: OMEN II,
The LA recordings have this raw sound that has a very spontaneous, yet flawed quality which works very well in the film.
A sort of organic ambiance that encompasses an uneasy unpredictability of the characters on screen.

Whereas the London re-recordings,
with Goldsmith's re-orchestration and re-arranging,
have this highly polished sound, that is nearly flawless in execution.

I hope Intrada can continue this trend with perhaps... say...
MacARTHUR
but was this one re-recorded in London or Burbank?
The album states engineered and mixdown by John Neal @ Burbank Studios.
Was it recorded there or just mixed for the album at this location.

As to Flight of the Phoenix, only half the score or less was on that release so there's room for a way more definitive edition in the future (and it's well deserving if anybody's listening).

I love the echoplex sessions tak on cd 1. The re-recording has such clean sound. Its almost audiophile. A classic and vintage Goldsmith set this is. Highly recommended. I know I can now trash out that atrocious RSNO recording!
