I have never heard a label admitting to pressing more than the limited number to cover lost or defective discs. If this is directed at Kritzerland (because I have said something about lost or defective discs on occasion) let me give it my pal correctly: I have made no secret that we hold back a certain number of CDs (usually 30) out of the 1000 (or whatever the limited number is) in case of emergencies. In other words, we don't press EXTRA discs to cover that - I don't know that anyone else does either, they really wouldn't have to anyway, and here's why and something that most people know (including the studios from whom titles are licensed) - overs. No pressing plant in existence will press exactly the number you order - they ALL contractually can go up to 10% over that number, and you have to take delivery of the overs - it's in the contract with them. I have no idea what the overs situation is at other pressing plants, but our overs normally come in at about 5% - i.e. an extra fifty discs, sometimes less. When that's the case, those become the emergency pile.
Now, out of emergency copies, we usually have to send out five to ten replacement copies thanks to the continuing and growing ineptitude of the USPS. On a couple of titles, it's been over that, shockingly, and on a couple of titles, we haven't had to go into the emergency pile at all. It varies from title to title. That is why I will occasionally go on the boards and tell people that if they missed anything we may or may not have a couple of copies left, available at the regular price. It's really that simple, and it's the same for every label.
Since my pal Startracks won't see this unless someone quotes it, someone quote it.

I just want to make sure my pal Startracks has all the facts at his fingertips.
I was honestly surprised to find out he is a father of four teenagers, since his behavior here would seem to belie something like that. I mean, here is a man who admits to holding an endless grudge against Kritzerland because he didn't like ONE response I posted on the FSM board several years ago. I have asked repeatedly for him to show everyone here what it is I posted (and Ford, too, since Ford apparently posted something he didn't like in that same thread) so we can all see what it is and decide how bad it was, and I said if I did post something that was rude I would be more than happy to apologize for it or at least explain it if it was being misconstrued. But he doesn't want to do that simple thing, and I think we can probably all figure out why.
