Great score. Gritty, funky, urban-blighted grooves. Love when the tambourine comes slappin' in at 1:30 or so in the first cue, the boldly-titled "The Organization."
I like when the AFM personnel are listed. That way, I can see that jazz stalwarts like Conte Condoli were getting mucho work in the film score game.
The fourth track, "The Whole World" has a Miles Davis Second Great Quintet sound to it, especially the Tony Williams-like drumming. I know Miles' group of the mid-'60s, which included Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Williams, wouldn't be well-regarded until later, but by musicians like Mellé, The Dark Prince of Jazz was held in high regard, indeed and it wouldn't surprise me if Miles was an influence. I'll get to the liner notes tonight.
