I agree with what Ron Pulliam and natedogg_23 said.
It's pretty silly to demand that a company restricts sales of its commercially released products just so somebody somewhere who -- for whatever reason -- is not going to buy this product now may be able to buy it later when circumstances are more to his liking. It's also silly to believe that this way every collector who wants a certain item is going to get his "fair shot" at receiving the item.

The issue as I see it is pretty clear: film music, particularly film music of older, more obscure titles, has a very limited collectors market. For many soundtrack CDs, this market is no larger than maybe 1000-3000 sales. So that's how many copies get printed. Some of these will somehow find their way to people selling this stuff at eBay. No biggie. Do I own every single soundtrack CD that I want? No. I wish I had Link on CD, I wish I had The Burbs, and there are plenty more that I don't have that I would like to have. I'm still not going through life miserably because of it.

One of the manufacturers such as Varese needs to catch someone selling a CD'R and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Put the person in prison for a few years and others might be discouraged!

The limited edition we have discussed before and is really up to the manufacturer. This is not a life and death situation and its there call as to 1,000-3,000 pieces. It is there money not ours!

Here is where we disagree! Making a copy of a CD for a friend, or fellow collector is technically not legal but that is far different from someone making 50 fake copies of Cherry 2000 and selling them as the real thing. There has to be some real bite in the law. If the person doing this risks jail time instead of probation and community service he might think twice before doing it. I am sure that Roger and Douglass are 100% behind me on this one.
