Just visited this old childhood favorite of mind and listened to a mono copy of the old 20th Fox soundtrack. If the master tapes have survived what a glorious treat would await us... There is some wonderfully heartbreaking violin music towards the end when Ladd is telling the girl to please take his dog. None of this is on the LP. Furthermore there is an annoying pitch change in the LP, just after the segue from the huge choral passage to the ecstatic orchestral climax. The film soundtrack does not have is anomaly.
This version of DOF seemed to be completely disregarded now as the only existing DVD is a cheapo one which omits the terrific Cinemascope presentation. Few collectors seem to know of this score and it deserves a ressurection. Please consider this one !
