When I was a kid, my familly & I were not cinema-goers. But thanks my dad's job, every holidays, we rent first VCRs avaible in our little contry-town !

I used then to record the end credits and dialogue-free scenes from my favorite movies, with a poor quality tape-recorder put very near the Tv !

One of the oldest tape is full of Jerry Goldsmith's GREMLINS and EXPLORERS, movies that were just released as home-video then...

At the same period, I discovered another gem: YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES (a movie I still love to watch to) with a score from a composer I'm still consider one of the best: the gifted, talented, melodic, awesome, etc. Bruce Broughton !

For the first-ever pleasure to hear Goldsmith's work in a thearter, I had to wait few years later with GREMLINS 2 !
Well, that's probably why, once a year, I write to Intrada's staff asking a complete release of GREMLINS after all...

He was smart enough to know that, I'm certain the reason his music became less stylistically complex from the late 80's on. I'm strictly old school when I say this, but to me his prime was his material through about 1983. I listened to Rent a Cop last night and there's something about his synth period that just doesn't pull it out of me.
