I've been very impressed by the recent Kritzerland release of this epic legendary score by Franz Waxman.
As Bruce Kimmel informs the listener in the booklet, he has miraculously found the original 3 track master of the album and the sound is really really (I mean REALLY) impressive for a 1962 recording.
Taras Bulba has always been one of my favorite film scores of the golden age, but it is a real miracle to listen to it with a bigger sound !
I can't tell you the joy, listening to The Ride of Dubno, as if it had been newly recorded ! As well, The Battle of Dubno is a terrific battle sequence, and you can now hear every instrument so precisely, that you can feel just like you're in the middle of the battle (or in the middle of the orchestra, back in 62 !).
I've been rarely so impressed by a remastering of a golden age soundtrack, and this one has become, just like Sleeping Beauty, a terrific example of old recordings that stand the test of time. Thank you Bruce Kimmel for this real treasure !
