If this topic has been discussed prior, I apologize for bringing it up but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed something kind of odd in the first track of the Varese Sarabande release of RUDY.

Jerry Goldsmith has been my idol forever.... so I'm not dissing on the music. Let's get that out of the way first.

Approximately 3:12 into the first track (Main Title) there is crescendo of strings and as the music builds toward the end of the track, nestled in the melody, it sounds like some dude is singing along with the music. It totally sounds out of place... it's jarring.... and everytime I listen to that cue it kind of freaks me out.... it reminds me of the cardboard cut-out of the kid stuck behind the curtains in that scene from Three Men and A Baby... you know the one that everyone thought was really a ghost!!!???? Ok, weird analogy but back to my point.... did someone in the booth sing a little too loudly that day during the recording session and get caught on tape or what????

Maybe I'm must nuts.

That would be Jerry himself singing with the score, appearently unaware he was singing that loud. IT's famously known among score fans.

RUDY is not the only Jerry Goldsmith recording out there that contains the maestro's voice.

On POLICE STORY, you can hear Goldsmith softly inhaling (or exhaling) during the quieter cues (I can't remember the cue title off hand, but it is the track that contains the dry solo percussion).

On BASIC INSTINCT, you can hear him saying "shhhhhhhh" as a certain cue ends, during the very tail end of it. (Sorry, I can't remember the exact cue title). If you've ever seen the Jerry Goldsmith documentary, he does this on THE RIVER WILD.

I remember in LIONHEART, you can hear him on that one too.

You have to really pay attention and have good speakers or headphones!
