Here are a few I enjoy listening to as just music, and enjoy listening to while watching the film's action sequence. I cannot limit it to just one "greatest Action Cue". Here's my quick list...

"Sinking Plane" from U.S. MARSHALS
"Final Mission" from THE SAND PEBBLES
"Bond Back In Action Again" from GOLDFINGER
"Escape From Torture" from RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II
"Chest Pains" from THE SHADOW
"Death Of Fiona" from THUNDERBALL
..and really, ANY of those low end piano chase cues of Jerry Goldsmith!

...There are so many many more - boil it down to just one as the 'greatest'?
IMPOSSIBLE!

I would agree total recall not one of goldsmiths greatest, the action cues some of is best, but i prefer more thematic action cues, and i think williams does best of those in for me. But there are so many

The first action cue I took serious note of (and still do) was Elmer Bernstein's "Flight" from MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM. The piano always gets my blood going. "Mud Island Chase," from THE FIRM (Grusin) does the same. Best? Depends on what moment you ask me. But I think Goldsmith has written just so many good ones. Always thought Rozsa was the template (structurally, not thematically) for his excellent "Raisuli Attacks."

The cue when Ryback rescues the hostages in Under Siege 2 is incredible.

Arsène et Beaumagnan from Debbie Wiseman's score to Arsène Lupin is effing awesome.

"Hot Water" from "Outland" is incredible--especially at brain-busting volumes. Same to "The Big Jump" from "Total Recall". I've always loved the build-up in "Roxy Loses" from "Basic Instinct" (watching that scene paired with Goldmith's score just gets my blood boiling). Other than Goldsmith (and there are a dozen more I could come up with, at least), I'd have to say Christopher Young's "Resurrection in Descent" from "The Core".

Well it has to be Something Of Value from "The Wind & The Lion", when it gets going, I just can't listen to it sitting down!

I think that the greatest action score ever has to be Goldsmith's RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II, especially tracks Escape from Torture and Village Raid / Helicopter Flight, terrific!

Has anybody mentioned "The Creation" from Doyle's FRANKENSTEIN yet? Just listening to this one, and it's as awesome as ever!

Fun topic. I'm a bit partial to Bruce Broughton's propulsive and seemingly all balls out action cue, "SLICK THEN McKENDRICK,"from SILVERADO. Expertly composed to fit the films action seamlessly, it, like Willaims' DESERT CHASE from Raiders, never fails to get my pulse throttled beyond the Red Line. I am most certainly left a bit weak and breathless after this piece finishes.

Love it, love it, love!!!!
