Two of my favorite love themes, ever:

Nino Rota's Romeo & Juliet and Ennio Morricone's Deborah from Once Upon a Time in America.

Jerry Goldsmith also wrote some pretty impressive love themes, sometimes a little bit more ambiguous than those of his peers:

Jake & Evelyn from Chinatown
The lovers from The Blue Max (one of my favorites of his)
Jake & Shirley from The Sand Pebbles
A New Love ; House of Hammocks from Under Fire

I couldn't live without this quartet of beautiful themes.

And how could one not melt listening to Philippe Sarde's main theme from Les Choses de la Vie ? Simple, moving... straight to the heart.

Georges Delerue's end title from La Femme d'à Côté is also simply gorgeous. So is John Barry's Somewhere in Time, still unsurpassed after all these years.

And let's not forget Wojciech Kilar's love theme from Bram Stoker's Dracula: timeless stuff!

"Gwen and Vern" from AIRPORT
I've not seen MOMENT TO MOMENT, so I'm not sure if the song theme is a love theme. Can anyone help me out here?

I'll also be the queer card in the deck and name some offbeat love themes I've liked:

PLANET OF THE APES - The one little theme that plays in the squeakiest range of the violins when Nova gets shoved into Taylor's cage that Goldsmith jokingly called the love theme. I can't help but like THAT!

SABRINA (1995) - "Sabrina Returns to Paris" has a secondary theme that seems to speak of love lost that I put in this category, and I like very much.

i agree love theme superman ,but also han and leia ,across the stars ,han and leia ,and krull love theme, ileia theme, echoing what other people say,but they are my gen personal favs

"The Princess Bride" (Mark Knopfler) theme -- essentially a love theme, I would say.

So shoot me ... but the way they used the Don Peake arranged instrumental of the song "White Bird" for Michael's love theme in one (or two) episodes of "Knight Rider", was highly affective if you ask me.


The love theme and variations in Henry Mancini's "The Thorn Birds" -- a fantastic 2CD set from Varese that has shockingly not sold out. A MUST have, if you ask me. I couldn't find a good version of it, but here is a clip from the film with it playing:

"Rose" from "Titanic", is seconded. The deeply haunting version that leads into the ice berg appearence, ... just not something one forgets.


The Buffy/Angel love theme from season 2 (though still used on occassion afterward) of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (Christophe Beck):
