I was listening to the fabulous score Dimitri Tiomkin wrote for Land of the Pharaohs (FSM 2CD edition) and realized how few scores from him I actually own : Duel in the Sun and The Red River. That's pretty much all.

I'm completely amazed by the strenght of Pharaohs music with this fantastic and unique use of choirs throughout the score, the melodic and rythmic richness of every instant, the harshness of those trembling brasses. Pure gold.

It's a shame Dimitri Tiomkin isn't more represented in my collection, and I would be very curious to know what are your favorite scores of his, or what is your idea of an ideal collection of Dimitri Tiomkin's CDs ?

I have: High Noon, The Alamo, The Old Man and the Sea, Friendly Pursuasion, Lost Horizon, The Unforgiven and of course the theme from Rawhide.

The Gerhardt CD of Tiomkin music is a nice starting point and includes one of my favorite works "Lost Horizon."
