Your latest Goldsmith discovery

For me here the "discovery" is a nagative comment on some old music that could make it in my opinion. The score is Warlock that was heard on my LP recently for the first time in a long time. In rehearing the music it occured to me that this was really a missed opportunity with great potential, if only alternate versions or takes of track cues were added in an expanded release on a new disk edition, to beef up the whole listening experience. It has an intriguing laid back feel to my ear, and several of the cues are really quite good. The composer must have explored many approaches in his attempt to represent this movie. An Intrada search to find such sources might turn up some good stuff. My guess is that there are other takes and tests and trials. It seems the score wants to succeed, at least as music alone aside from the movie.

Funny, I always thought Goldsmith's VOYAGER theme had a hint of Barry in it.

Someday, if someone can corral the masters, many of you might discover his Emmy-winning score for the 1973 TV version of THE RED PONY. It's some typically wonderful Goldsmith Americana.
