Well, I've just received the CD and it's awesome !
The music on the CD manages to remain faithful to Brad Fiedel (Bear McCreary declares his love for the James Cameron's movies and the Brad Fiedel's scores in the liner notes) while being the distinct voice of the series and its composer. There are nods to Brad Fiedel from time to time but the great novelty here is the presence of acoustic instruments, a small but warm orchestral formation integrated to the classic synthetic "Terminator" sound. This musical dichotomy gives wings to the purpose of the music, creating a very meaningful human/robot duality.
The heartfelt Sarah Connor's theme is presented in a complete development since the very beginning of the CD, right after the Main Title and knows several occurrences throughout the CD. This is a beautiful piece to begin with : the chords explain the love of a mother for her son while the metallic percussions reminds us her fight against robots from the future.
Speaking of metallic percussions, many percussive action tracks follow and one of the best electronic tracks I’ve ever heard is certainly the Motorcycle Robot Chase of which the intense electronic distorsions and unstoppable rhythm are just plain transcendental !
Bear McCreary has perfectly captured a universe, a story, characters, through his music, and completely proved his fandom to the fan I am myself. I’m proud to have such a great album signed by such a talented artist.
