His score for Ladyhawke might be very odd indeed, but Andrew Powell did some truly amazing arrangements/conducting and orchestral scoring for Alan Parsons Project's Tales of Mystery and Imagination in 1975. His orchestral piece for The Fall of the House of Usher is highly recommended, with a fine grasp of mood and symphonic writing.

He's a serious, classicaly-trained composer. I think he studied with Boulez (or was it Berio ?) at some point. I've never really figured out why on earth Richard Donner asked him to come up with pop/synth orchestrations on Ladyhawke. The music really harms what is a visually stunning movie, shot by Vittorio Storaro, of all people !

Richard Donner actually explained it in the GNP release booklet. When he was doing locations in Europe, he was listening to The Alan Parsons Project as an inspiration. Then it became part of his view of the story and the movie and impossible to be removed. He heard this sound from the very beginning of pre-production of the movie and it was a pure artistic choice.

Oh! That makes sense, then.

I don't own the CD, the vinyl I bought way back in '85 was enough for me. Thanks for the info!

Thank you, because you got me interested in this first Alan Parsons Project album you talked about, concept album inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. I've just found a cheap copy of the 2007 double CD reissue, and you convinced me of the potential of this title.
