I'm with you 100%.
I also wondered why Varese released 2500 on Book 1 and only 1500 on Book 2.
Maybe Book 1 did'nt sell very well?
I have just had a Book 1 & Book 2 DVD marathon over the last 4 days.
A trip down memorylane back to when they aired on TV, think it was in 87-88 here in sweden.
I never saw Book 3 tho, if my memory serves me right it premiered on VHS-rentals over here.
I heard that it sucked, and now I tried to watch it on DVD.
I got about an hour into the first episode, and then I could'nt take anymore.
All good things about the first two were gone.
Not only the actors but the overall quallity.
Even Bill Conti had left the ship on this one, and boy does it show...
The Main Title to Book 3 is dreadful.
Maybe Varese will release Book 3 in 500 copies next time around.
Hope NOT.

Book 1 & 2 stands as some of my favourite miniseries
along with classics like
SHOGUN
JACK THE RIPPER (Michael Caine)
SALEM'S LOT (David Soul)
WISEGUY: SONNY STEELGRAVE AND THE MOB
V: THE MINISERIES
V: THE FINAL BATTLE (The following V - series Sucked tho)
The best theme to North and South is Friends Farewell
Book 1 - CD 3 - Track 29
Made me share a tear or two when I heard it, what a great way to end the first miniseries....
Thanks for this release Varese...
The 80's those were the days when they made miracles in Hollywood.
