I'd pick that same moment from GHOST AND MRS. MUIR, too, but since you've already mentioned it:

Bernstein's TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD: a similar moment for strings when Boo steps out of the shadows in Jem's room at the end ("Boo Who").

Another one: Goldsmith's LEGEND: "Re-United" It's gorgeous and the final resolution of the cue - that quiet plucked strings note - perfection.

Well, there's a lot of them. But I'll hit one that just went by this weekend when our family sat down to watch GLORY.

Matthew Broderick gathers his regiment on the beach near the end and dismounts his horse. He parts with the animal, draws his saber and starts leading the charge towards Fort Wagner. The main theme swells, then drowns in a roar of chimes, orchestra bells and percussion. James Horner defines a transcendent moment!

It happens so much more with the movie running... Simply because the alliance of the images and the music is a perfect blend to deliver a complete emotion. Each time I'm watching the end of Field of Dreams, I can't contain an incomprehensible, unspeakable and deep feeling. I can't put a word on it... because James already did it with his own musical words. I guess film music is a place where dreams come true... ^^

hello. i'm new to this group, but would like to contribute a telling moment i just experienced...

as soon as i heard the first swelling melody on the new Boy on a Dolphin resurrection, i was swept back 50-plus years to Izmir, Turkey, when as a 14-year-old AF dependent lolling in the non-base movie theater, i was suddenly mesmerized by the Friedlander music (not to mention the sexy look of Sophia Loren). and i then realized that i was sitting maybe a hundred miles from where the movie had recently been filmed!

hearing the music again brought everything instantly back, like the taste of a cookie or whatever in Proust. music can do that, work wonders, soothe the heartaches, uplift the spirit. obvious remarks, i guess, but maybe my small moment fits. cheers.

Maybe it is because I have played it in high school and college, the music from How the West Was Won carries me back to an earlier stage in my life. It doesn't hurt that I saw it when it was released in Cinerama. Now if I could just grab the new blu ray release...........
