I think whatever you do will make some people unhappy. You also have to do whats best for Intrada because if anything happens we will all be big losers. You own the company and you know what it takes to run a profitable enterprise so I am sure whatever you do will be fine. For those who are unhappy you will just have to live with it.

Agree for the most part, Thundarr, but I would point out that BuySoundtrax seems to do what ever it wants, and they get thread after thread of complaints posted at FSM. And their feedback on eBay isn't that great either.

A number of users have expressed not wanting to ever do business with them again, and indeed since I didn't see Mark Banning ever defend himself (I don't expect to see Ford, but I thought Mark was a nicer guy), I cant' quite see my way into wanting to do business with them again either.


And a label should always gage what it's customer base feels and what their "wants" are. Sure it's nice to release what you want, but you go to have stuff that also sales. Lukas, that poor guy, releases so much older stuff that isn't selling out (whether good or bad scores) that it's hard to imagine he's turning any kind of good profit. He once said that in order for FSM to have a healthy life, releasing two scores a month helps acheive that. There wre NO NEW FSM CDs in June. And didn't a copuple months in recent times only have one? And then a number of LP presentations for quick money ... I'm betting FSM is hurting and may go under one day in the not too distant future.
Why I always get angry when I go someplace, like the JWFan.com trading board, and see people offering downloads/trades of new/in-print FSM, is that these fools don't seem to care. IF they like the music, they wouldn't do that, because FSM releases a lot of stuff that -- quite frankly -- you're not going to see from any other label, or EVER see bootlegged.


Anyway, I seem to have gone on a hell of a tangent.

Tharp, I hope you're wrong about FSM. I think I remember Lukas saying something about how the SuperBox sucked up a hell of a lot of resources for them and that the "regular schedule" would be spread out a bit for a while as a result.

Seems to me he also said that they were running out of complete, releasable, "holy grail" scores from the studios they've been working with for the last several years and that decisions would have to be made soon about what to do, if anything, with those scores that exist only as partially corroded elements or drastically edited LP masters. I hope the complaints about "Satan Bug" and the Herbert Stothart disc didn't eliminate these kind of projects altogether.

I, for one, could use a break from the constant stream of kick-ass CDs coming at us from all directions.

I don't know that there's any evidence for FSM being in danger. They're finally releasing 80s stuff (Accidental Tourist, Ice Pirates, Under Fire...HEAVY METAL), which I think is awesome. The last batch was the frist time I've bought both discs of an announcement from any company. A JW score I was missing and a fun Broughton.

As I recall, Lukas expressed financial woes once or twice at the FSM message board.

"Ice Pirates"? Got to have been for the money. The only thing worse than that score is "Days of Thunder".

I wonder what the first UMG (3000 copies) release to sell out will be? - My guess would be "The Last Valley". But I don't have a clue, I didn't think the FSM "Superman" box would sell well.
