Funny - well sort of - but this composer is not discussed that often on the various message boards we all know. Do you like his style? Many years ago his music used to drive me up the ceiling, but over the years I've come to appreciate his, for lack of a better word, strong voice.

I might not be able to listen to his music for too many hours, but sometimes there's definitely something quite exhilarating to his music.

Favorites of mine include:

1. ZOO (Lady in the red hat is sooo addictive!)
2. THE PIANO
3. DROWNING BY NUMBERS (Nice variations on Mozart's symphonie concertante)
4. THE END OF THE AFFAIR
5. THE DRAUGHTMAN'S CONTRACT
6. THE HAIRDRESSER'S HUSBAND

I love it, but not specifically his film music. He write in a very peculiar idiom, different of other repetitive music, full of humor, musical joke, but can be sometimes REALLY irritating for some ears. There are great concert pieces, like the "TGV music", "The Piano" symphony and many other... and a great live album that I recommend to everyone who like his music (it contains also film music, as the excellent "The Piano" suite with some concert arrangements.

I saw Nyman & his band in concert many years ago in Paris, it was astounding...

Thanks for these recommandations, dadid. I realize I don't have any of his concert pieces. Only soundtracks.

I shall try and I find a copy of his "TGV music".

I'm a big fan of Nyman's work, glad to see a thread arise on his music.

Among my fav's are: GATTACA, THE END OF THE AFFAIR, THE CLAIM

RAVENOUS is quite a fun and interesting listen as well. BTW, anyone have the Nyman tracks from the PRACTICAL MAGIC CD?

Oh, my goodness! I've been in love with Nyman ever since I saw The Draughtsman's Contract at a San Francisco arthouse way back in '82.

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. Drowning by Numbers. The Belly of an Architect. A Zed and Two Noughts.

Personal favorites: the brilliant Prospero's Books and the heartbreaking Gattaca. ("The Other Side" and especially "The Departure" are devastating pieces.)

Belly of an Architect is by Wim Mertens. Beautiful score, indeed.
