A Jerry Fielding Confessional

I never saw the appeal. Sure, I have The Wild Bunch, and once even owned the Bay Cities compilation that included Straw Dogs et al. before selling it back(!) to Aron's Records.

I'd also seen most films with Fielding scores and summarily shrugged my shoulders.

Until Chato's Land.

Not only is the film itself exceptionally and unexpectedly well-crafted, but Fielding's score is simply remarkable, dynamically serving to shore up the on-screen action while standing alone beautifully. I am finally and officially a convert, and I'm actually loving it!

Now I'm sorry I missed Lawman, but I'll order The Mechanic and live for the day when significant works like The Outlaw Josey Wales find their way onto disc or a digital format.

I like Lawman even better than Chato's Land (listen to the sound clips here). I'm glad you've come to like Fielding. Now maybe even the stuff that didn't push your buttons before you'll start to "get".

I see another Peckinpah Western film JUNIOR BONNER was also scored by Fielding, I'm yet to hear that too.
