Saw this movie last week. Great film directed by Kevin Lima, who was responsible for the ELOISE films that we released the soundtracks to awhile back. I have to applaud Disney for being willing to poke fun at their princess legacy. It was a class act.

And the Amy Adams songs are a pure delight...but a little too infectious, it takes a long time to get them out of my head. The album is strong, featuring the three Adams songs, a few source songs, and a hefty chunk of the Alan Menken score. The score itself is typical, perhaps a bit routine, for Menken following the same lines as his other scores for his previous animated efforts, although the "Enchanted Suite" is a gem. Given that the Adams songs are the strongest assets, having them as the first three tracks gives away the best all at once. I might resequence into film order so they joy is spread out a bit.

Overall, great film. Great album. Don't miss it!

I about the only one I know of that prefers Home On The Range to all the other Menken scores/songs (bar that Beu Sisters and Menken cringer). K D Lang's song is just right for the situation I guess is where I'm going. Didn't hear anything like that on Enchanted, sounded like more ultra pop. Review are all positive, some trumpet bullseye. I haven't seen the film yet either, maybe there is some outstanding coalescing of elements.
Does this new album make the "Roger Cut"?

I have not seen the movie, though the trailer (on a recently purchased Disney DVD, but I can't remember which-- it was a few months ago) was intriguing and funny.

I received the CD this noon and am playing it for the fourth time now.
Great songs indeed! "True Love's Kiss" and "Happy Working Song" are delightful.
Amy Adams is not just pretty, she has a lovely voice too.
James Marsden also turns out to have a great singing voice.

The score is nice, but it's really the end of it that's the most interesting part; Menken has always written great, exciting, dramatic, suspenseful climax music (Hercules, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, ...), and here he does it again in a most outstanding way, with powerful choir parts as in The Hunchback of Notre Dame; the latter remains on top, but Enchanted comes very close.

Really? It's funny, because I found the songs one of the weakest parts of the movie. A matter of taste, obviously, but I've been a fan of Menken's songs in the past (mostly long ago, with his late partner Howard Ashman providing the lyrics). So I'm quite open to enjoying his work. These left me cold, and that frustrated me during the movie.

They're very different from the '90's songs, and at first listen I found the first two really nice and the others less interesting, but "That's How You Know" turned out to be very catchy (and quite Menkeny in its rhythm/percussion, a kin of "Under the Sea", though not a very close kin), and "Ever Ever After" is pretty goo (albeit a bit too loud, courtesy of Carrie underwood); "So Close" is the only so-so one.

To sum it up:
- "True Love's Kiss" has a very nice theme
- "Happy Working Song" has the infectious quality stated in previous messages
- "That's How You Know" and "Ever Ever After" are cool
In any case, they are all "strong" songs, but definitely not in the more "romantic" tone of the '90's.

I was disappointed with "Home on the Range", however (I haven't seen this one either); I tried it again this summer, but do not recall it well enough to comment on it precisely; there was one nice song ("little heaven" something?), but the yoddeling, while neatly written adn performed, is exactly what the sort of thing I prefer.
The score was nice enough, but not on the level of his previous Disney achievements either. I still need to edit my own CD of this one, with only the score and that one song probably; there may be another one, actually (performed by Menken).
