Not to be confused with how long you've been a FAN of film music, as our interests usually start somewhere before we actually begin collecting.

For me: 31 years and counting.

Anyone else?

I believe since 1988 or 1989. The first soundtrack I bought myself was Beetlejuice, however my parents may have bought me the LPs of Star Wars, Top Gun and Indiana Jones much earlier. Why Top Gun I have no idea.

Although I already had some scores in my collection by 1988 (on cassette), serious collecting got a kick-start after I had seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade at the local cinema. I am not sure what my first score CD was (it probably was John Williams' Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, which I still have), but on cassette I know it was The NeverEnding Story.

Some other early purchases (on CD) were:

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (Jerry Goldsmith)
Innerspace (Jerry Goldsmith)
The Mission (Ennio Morricone)

BE

PS: I had Harry and the Hendersons and Jaws 3-D on cassette. Now, thanks to Intrada, both these enjoy retirement in the cellar.

Ive been listening to and buying filmscores for well over 30 years, I love it so much , its my passion.
My collection as changed so much in that amount of time its hard to say as to when the "collection" actually started.
ie: started with LPs and now its CDs.

I have a cell phone with a mp3 player on it so now I can sneek a listen at work every now and then, I love it!!

A little over ten years, for me.

First film score album I consciously listened to: Last of the Mohicans

First film score album I owned (a present): Star Trek: First Contact

First film score album I bought: I actually can't remember now...few years ago I knew. I think it was a Horner, maybe Land Before Time or Titanic but I think it was The Mask of Zorro.

16 years !
3 first scores bought all in once in 1991 : Back to the Future (Alan Silvestri, Beetlejuice (Danny Elfman) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (John Williams). I was planning to buy my first stereo at the time and was decided to begin a collection of film music CDs which was the music I was the most attracted to. I was 10 years old.

Okay, looks like I'm the old guy here. I started my interest four decades ago. My parents bought me some soundtracks about the same time that names like Jerry Goldsmith & Johnny Williams were first popping up and - unbeknownst to mom and dad at the time - a monster was born.

I have had an interest in film music very early on, when I was still a child. I actively started buying soundtracks when I found out that you could buy that type of music on (then) LPs. My first very own "original motion picture soundtrack" LPs included John Barry's The Black Hole, John Williams' Jaws II, and Jerry Goldsmith's Poltergeist.
