1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you?
I never collected soundtracks but when FSM entered the ring, I started to take soundtracks seriously. I am defining myself as a listener.
Before FSM, I listened to other kinds of music but, nevertheless, soundtrack was around me... There were scores I really wanted from way back... I am a film fan.
I'd like to add that I'm an "original recording" listener.
For the anecdote, I bought the Intrada edition of "Planet of the Apes" and the Retrograde (FSM) edition of "The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three" when they first come out.

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly)?
Around 300 CDs.

3- From which composer do you collect the most ?
Bernard Herrmann then Jerry Goldsmith.

4- From which label do you collect the most ?
FSM then Intrada.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most prouf of?
I can't say... what is rare? Unavailable? Limited edition?

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item?
I don't know... it's an ambiguous question on the brink of illegality...

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…)?
Alphabetic order by composer.

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset)?
Some CDs from FSM.

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound?
"Jaws" (John Williams)

10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure?
MP3 is designed for teenagers who consume and swallow music without culture. I listen to music at home on my stereo equipment (amplifier, speakers and CD player). MP3 is the opposite of collecting or true, thorough listening.

11- Are you a bottlecap (that's a "completist") collector?
No. As I said above, I am a listener.
I am against collection for collection because you buy and you don't listen.
Besides, there are scores from my favourite composers that I find un-interesting.

12- What are your deciding factors in buying a score? (hearing it in the movie first, reading reviews, trust in the composer, sound samples, ...)
The composer comes first, the sound samples come second and the memory of the movie comes third.

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you ?

I was eight when my parents bought a stereo for my brother's birthday gift. In those days a stereo was a piece of furniture. Anyway, I was sad because they didn't buy me anything, so my Mom gave me one of the demonstration albums, the soundtrack to GIGI. That was 1958.

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly) ?

2777 lp's and cd's.

3- From which composer do you collect the most ?

Has to be Goldsmith, but I have a lot of other guys, too, like Bernstein, who is another real favorite of mine.

4- From which label do you collect the most ?

Back in the vinyl days I collected every single United Artists albums along with Colgems, most of the Colpix, Mainstream, Ava, Italian labels like CAM, and I'd say 90% of every issue from Varese Saraband.

Today I'd say FSM, Digitmovies, Varese Saraband again, Intrada, SAE & BYU.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most prouf of ?

LP's: Pillow Talk.
CD's: Cherry 2000

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item ?

Whatever I could afford if I really want it.

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…) ?

By label in chronological order.

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset) ?

The old vinyl box sets of BEN-HUR, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM.
Today, the box set of Jerry at Fox, Elmer's FILMMUSIC COLLECTION, and the LOTR sets are great.
All of the albums covers by Saul Bass and Bob Peak are my favorites.

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound ?

The lp of CASINO ROYALE.

10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure ?

If I ignore it maybe it'll go away.

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you?

The very first CD(s) I ever got were the German and English version of Zimmer's The Lion King, on Christmas Eve 1994.

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly)?

Not counting CDrs and unmentionables, my collection currently stands at 493 CDs.

3- From which composer do you collect the most?

None in particular. Jerry Goldsmith is the most represented composer, though.

4- From which label do you collect the most?

Also none in particular. Varese CDs tend to accumulate...and Sonic Images makes up a large part of my collection as well.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most proud of?

An original copy of the Oscar promo of Goldsmith's Mulan.

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item ?

The maximum is 75€, which I paid for the Mulan promo.

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…)?

Physically...by alphabet. Electronically, I have everything from alphabetically sorted to date of acquisition to rating to composer etc.

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset)?

The complete LotR sets.

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound?

Since I only have an old two-speaker HiFi stereo from 1996, everything sounds more or less alike.

10- What do you think of mp3? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure?

mp3 is great for when you're travelling etc. I hope it's NOT the end to traditional collecting, though!

Just based on the amount of work he's done, Jerry Goldsmith.

4- From which label do you collect the most ?

Probably Varese, counting club releases as well.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most proud of ?

Well Jerry Goldsmith @ 20th Century Fox rather nice

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item ?

Depends on my mood at the time

Jerry Goldsmith's Timeline is pretty good.

10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure ?

Maybe 20 to 30 years from now it might be the norm but whatever form music is available in I'll still be collecting film scores.

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you?
My first soundtrack was a cassette of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and it given to me by a friend when I was 16 years old.

My first CD was Schindler's List for my birthday in 1993.

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly)?
3000+

3- From which composer do you collect the most ?
I think I have more Jerry Goldsmith than any other composer but Williams is still my favorite.

4- From which label do you collect the most ?
Not sure. I don't collected by label. However, I do own every single FSM CD.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most prouf of?
When it was rare before the re-release it was The Witches of Eastwick which I found in a bargain bin for $3.99. I think the most collectable CD I own is The Towering Inferno and Predator.

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item?
Nothing more than $50.

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…)?
Alphabetic order by composer.

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset)?
Ben-Hur (Rhino)
Star Wars Anthology
The Lord of the Rings Complete Recordings

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound?
- E.T. (John Williams - recored by Bruce Botnick and Lyle Burbridge)
- The Right Stuff/North and South (Bill Conti - recorded by Eric Tomlinson)
- The Polar Express (Alan Silvestri - recorded by Dennis Sands)
- Any of the non-Dolby Charles Gerhardt RCA Victor releases.

10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure?
I've converted everything that I own into MP3 or AAC. I have no problem with the medium as long as these on-line record stores encode everything at the highest quality, DRM free and with high quality and complete CD art work.

11- Are you a bottlecap (that's a "completist") collector?
I like to own as much as I can.

12- What are your deciding factors in buying a score? (hearing it in the movie first, reading reviews, trust in the composer, sound samples, ...)
I don't buy too many CD's anymore because of my radio show. But when I do purchase a CD I go first by composer, then sound samples and then review.

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you?
1990, with a tape of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I was 14.

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly)?
Thousands. I haven't counted lately, but they take up an entire wall.

3- From which composer do you collect the most?
Probably Jerry Goldsmith.

4- From which label do you collect the most?
That's a rough one... I would say Varese simply because of the sheer amount of releases that they have.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most proud of?
It used to be Images...

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item?
It really depends on how much I want it, but I try not to spend more than $30 on a single disc. Doesn't always work out that way, though.

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…)?
Despite all of the flack I get for it, I still organize by film title. It makes it easier for my friends who are not as knowledgeable about film music navigate my collection. My iPod is organized by film genre (Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi, Western, Swashbuckler, etc.).

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset)?
That's hard to say... either the FSM Bernstein Box or the LOTR CR sets.

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound?
The Advanced Resolution tracks on the DVD-Audio of Morgan/Stromberg's The Adventures of Robin Hood. It's a shame there won't be a companion edition with their recording of The Sea Hawk.

10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure?
I think mp3s are fantastic with respect to portability. I can take an entire library of music with me wherever I go on my iPod. I am an audiophile, however, so they have not replaced CDs for me, but are rather a supplement. CDs have many benefits, not the least of which are the liner notes, artwork and full bandwidth audio, the latter of which is desirable not only for when I'm listening to music at home but also when I'm making my mixes, which is a favorite hobby of mine.

11- Are you a bottlecap (that's a "completist") collector?
Usually not. There are cases where I'll buy the one extra disc in a film series, even if I'm not particularly swayed by it to have a complete run (I do own GoldenEye, for example), but for the most part I judge each score on individual merits.

12- What are your deciding factors in buying a score? (hearing it in the movie first, reading reviews, trust in the composer, sound samples, ...)
All of the above. Obviously if I'm familiar with the score from the film or something, but if I don't know I check reviews and sound samples. With respect to trust in the composer, that's often a large factor (for example, I tend to order the Broughton scores that Intrada releases because I have yet to be disappointed in one).

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you?

In 1986, when I was 16 - I think it was a cassette of A View To A Kill.

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly)?

The last time I counted a year or two back it was in the 800s. So it's likely to have risen now. :)

3- From which composer do you collect the most ?

Williams, Silvestri, Goldsmith, Elfman and Broughton seem to pop up an awful lot.

4- From which label do you collect the most?

Varese Sarabande. Not out of choice, mind you.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most proud of?

I'd probably say Predator, Inchon (I managed to get a Signature Edition before they were all sold out) and The Rescuers Down Under on cassette (before Disney reissued it).

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item?

Depends on whether or not I wanted it. I don't believe in collecting things just because they're rare.

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…)?

Score CDs, film or TV - alphabetically by composer (if it's more than one composer it's classed according to how much space he/she has - something like The Last of the Mohicans is easy, whereas Spy Kids has about two hundred composers but I've got it in the Danny Elfman section because I divided the running time of each track amongst the composer(s) credited, and then added up their contributions or credits).

TV series CDs - alphabetically by title.

Compilation CDs - alphabetically by title if they're something like TV theme collections, alphabetically by composer if they're devoted to one person's work.

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset)?

Boxset - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - The Complete Recordings.
Cover art - The Italian release of Malena (come on, naked Monica Bellucci? Beat that, Matthew Peak!).
Booklet - I've always liked FSM's booklets. Paul Andrew MacLean's Legend one is good as well.
Picture disc - Jessica Alba on the Sin City CD.

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound?

I've never really been sure...

10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure ?

Going from LPs to CDs didn't end it, so I don't think mp3s will. It's just another avenue to getting music, not the be-all and end-all.

11- Are you a bottlecap (that's a "completist") collector?

Since I decided not to shell out for the recent RoboCop and King Solomon's Mines "expanded" reissues because they didn't have enough extra music to make it worth the cost of doubling up (or tripling up in the case of the latter), I'd have to say "No."

12- What are your deciding factors in buying a score? (hearing it in the movie first, reading reviews, trust in the composer, sound samples, ...)

All of them to an extent.
