Sorry if I seemed dismissive. We are both huge Jarre fans, I'm sure! Perhaps Donaggio and Jarre ARE difficult to move if the numbers are like 3000. Especially if it's Donaggio on auto-pilot like SEED OF CHUCKY.
But Firefox has a lot more going for it. It's an Eastwood movie and it's a sci fi genre effort from the 80's. And it's a thrilling, fun score! I think 2000 would sell out quickly[/quote]
No bigger fan than I!
In a better world 3000 Donaggio & Jarre would be gone fast, but people are picky about things, you know like good music. I'm still floored that it's taken this long for Conti's GLORIA to move, since that is not only a fine album, but a good 'textbook' example of scoring.
True, Firefox does have some built in audience appeal, didn't think about that.
I've always found something in each Jarre score, even the ones that have semi-annoying themes, he always manages to endear me to his writing in the end. I discovered his work a bit backwards, since I was into electronics in the 80's, and fell in love with that stuff first - especially No Way Out. I didn't "discover" the Lean stuff until much later. I remember loving Gorillas In The Mist, but begin taken aback by the big orchestral writing that closes and opens the album!
Some of those synth samples do sound "cheap" at times, but I prefer to substitute cheap for charm
And yes, CP, Training Montage is pretty hard to stomach, even for an 80's loving synth-head like me....lol
