I'll bite.

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you?
-- First noticed that I had an aversion to film music when I was about 4 or 5 years old - first LP that I tracked down was STAR WARS ( I was 7 ) - first CD was THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, back when it debuted on CD in 1984 - by then I was in full soundtrack collecting mode.

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly)?
-- Got Rid of most of my LPs save a handful or so, who's packaging that I enjoy - CDs number into over 10,000 - then I stopped counting.

3- From which composer do you collect the most?
-- Must be Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams - my Ennio Morricone is sorrily lacking.

4- From which label do you collect the most?
-- Likely the label that puts out the most releases - Varese Sarabande followed by INTRADA.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most proud of ?
-- I have a napkin that John Scott wiped his mouth on, at the SNACK FACTORY that was around the corner from INTRADA's SF store, which I then got him to sign. I need help, I know.

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item?
-- I've been at this too long to have to pay exorbitant prices.

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…)?
-- Alphabetically by composer, then by film title. Odds and ends go at the end in "micellanious."

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset)?
-- I like things that are more personalized, like Quincy Jones business card that I got from him when I was 14, it has his home # written on it in his hand - and a copy of HOLLY GOES TO HOLLYWOOD signed by Doug Fake and director hamster extraordinaire, Jeff Johnson. I might have the first one they signed, as they had just arrived in the store and right out of the boxes.

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound?
-- That's a tough question. The LOTR expanded scores with the DVD disc are pretty incredible.

10- What do you think of mp3? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure?
-- MP3 is okay, but it's a junk technology and wont last as a long lasting alternative formate to the CD. When a formate comes out that doesn't smash the sound like MP3 does, then there might be some danger sounding for CDs to lose further steam. It goes without saying, that with so many cool releases coming out these days, it's a good time to be a film music collector... but also a scary one that might see the CD collectors market shrinking even further.

:)

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you ?

At school - I started picking up Geoff Love LPs; subsequently Bond soundtracks and John Williams. I moved onto CDs in about 1992.

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly) ?

LPs - probably about 50 but they never get played as I don't have a record player (and most of them I also have on CD). CDs - about 2000 although I will be getting rid of a lot next year.

3- From which composer do you collect the most ?

Jerry Goldsmith.

4- From which label do you collect the most ?

Varese, but then they release the most. And I don't collect them because they're Varese.

5- What is the rare item you’re the most proud of ?

I managed to get a few pristine discs when they were long out of print: Suspect, Dust Devil, Friday The 13th Part III, Cousins, Who Framed Roger Rabbit (original issue). The Serpent and the Rainbow isn't pristine, but it plays perfectly. But the one item would be the Silva issue of Alien, because Mr G signed it.

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item ?

I paid about £60 for Serpent. I'd probably pay about the same for Link or Runaway Train. They're the two big missing grails for me (and Runaway Train I'll admit is mainly for the lovely Gloria track).

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…) ?

720 of my favourites alphabetically by title. The remainder in the spare room in pretty much random order. Occasionally I'll shuffle a few titles around (but not Jerry Goldsmith - all his CDs get a free pass to the main shelves) and move out a few so-so titles to make way for new arrivals.

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset) ?

Maybe the FoxBox.

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound ?

The sound quality on some of the remastered Bonds is superb.

10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure ?

I don't like it. It's not collecting. That said, I'm not as much of a collector any more, but if Varese, Intrada, FSM et al decided to go the download-only route, I'd simply not bother. I'm not paying money for a bloody computer file. I don't have a MP3 player or iPod and, though I considered getting one a while back, I decided against it because I'm never that far away from the music for that length of time. If I travelled more or worked out of doors a lot then it would be different.

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you ? I think it was 73, or 74. I would have been 11 or 12.
2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly) ? 2000
3- From which composer do you collect the most ? Goldsmith
4- From which label do you collect the most ? Varese, given their extensive catalog
5- What is the rare item you’re the most prouf of ? Rare..Hmm...good question. Maybe the Goldsmith Box...the Silva Alien CD...original Witches Of Eastwick....
6- What would you pay for a truly rare item ? the most so far, $60.00
7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…) ? Alphabetical, by film title
8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset) ? The Goldsmith box is pretty damn nifty
9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound ? Any Telarc CD, they are tough to beat
10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure ? NO....CD's won't go away. MP3's are handy, but will not kill the compact disc

Happy collecting ! And thank you for your time.[/quote]

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you ?
I started when I was given the record of "Once Upon a Time in the West" for my 14th or 15th birthday.
I had expressed my interest in the score to Jaws, so I got Morricone ;-)).

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly) ?
Somewhere around 1000 I think

3- From which composer do you collect the most ?
Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams switch places every now and then (I own some 80 cd's of both)

4- From which label do you collect the most ?
Varese, longest in business, great catalogue

5- What is the rare item you’re the most prouf of ?
Serpent and the Rainbow and SpaceCamp and the Mulan promo

6- What would you pay for a truly rare item ?
I once paid $150,- for the 'Burbs (3 yrs. back), never again! (I hope...)

7- How do you classify your soundtracks (label, composer, chronological,…) ?
Usually alphabetically by the title of the movie.

8- What is the most beautiful item of your collection (cover art, booklet, picture disc, boxset) ?
The Lord Of The Rings extended editions

9- Which of your items has the most incredible sound ?
I love the transparent and crystal clear sound of the Witches of Eastwick

10- What do you think of mp3 ? Do you think it’s gonna end the collecting pleasure ?
It's covenient for mobile use, but in no way a replacement of the physical cd with booklet.
I usually test new mp3 converting systems with sopranos, the result is often very harsh.

11/ Are you a bottlecap (that's a "completist") collector?
No, and I hope i won't become one

12/ What are your deciding factors in buying a score? (hearing it in the movie first, reading reviews, trust in the composer, sound samples, ...)
1. Composer (but I'll still want to hear sound-samples first)
2. Hearing the music in the film
3. Combination of reviews, samples and my appetite of the moment

I'm planning to do some statistics based from your answers. here I begin with the first questions :

1- When did you start your soundtracks CD/LP collection, and how old were you ?

12,5 % of us began collecting in the 2000’s
31 % of us began collecting in the 90’s
25 % of us began collecting in the 80’s
25 % of us began collecting in the 70’s
6% of us began collecting in the 60’s

We began our soundtracks collection at an average age of 14 years old, which is pretty much young don't u think ?

2- How many original soundtracks CDs and LPs do you own (roughly) ?

We own an average number of 1700 soundtracks.

3- From which composer do you collect the most ?

Around 90 % of us collect the most from Jerry Goldsmith !

4- From which label do you collect the most ?

No surprise here, almost everyone claims to have more Varèse Sarabande CDs. Then Intrada comes second.
