No bitching and moaning at the very least??? They're sure making up for it over on FSM's board. LOL!!!

With premieres of scores from Victor Young, Elmer Bernstein, Bill Conti, and Erich Wolfgang Korngold riffing on Richard Wagner, what's not to love? I'm happy. A few family members are gonna have to do without Christmas presents this year, but that's THEIR problem, not mine.

Pretty unremarkable and not of interest to me. But I'm pleased for those fans who are excited by this selection. For me Alien is enough to keep me entertained. Sure if Varese had managed a "wow" title then all the better but I won't lose sleep over it. Hoping for better next time though.

I've always hoped for a re-mastered/re-recorded NxNW. The Rhino has horrible sound, the L.J. re-recording is painfully incomplete, and the DVD iso score is chopped up to match the film edits. Judging by the sound clips, this could be the definitive NxNW release. Can't wait!

I wonder why this is limited, when every other McNeely/Herrmann re-recording has been a regular release? Not that I'm complaining, I'm just interested.

I guess I have to complain about something - the is pretty horrible.

I'm very happy to see Varese's old lp of Magic Fire make it to cd. Korngold never disappoints me, and he did a spectacular job adapting A Midsummer Night's Dream; in fact it ended up feeling very Korngoldian in its execution even if the melodies were Mendelssohn's. Magic Fire is said to be a bit different, but I'm glad to have it.

North By Northwest was a complete surprise, but McNeely has done superb (to my ear) recordings of Vertigo and Psycho, so I'm confident I'll enjoy this new Hitchcock offering.

Say, is that the same Slovak orchestra heard to great effect in Spellbound?

Well I picked-up By Love Possessed and Neighbors. I just couldn't afford any more than that this time around.

I personally have no problem with this batch, but I did find it a little disappointing being that it's the last batch before Christmas. So I guess I was expecting something special.

Intrada, you have spoiled me.

As for the "wacky" sound to Neighbors, being a long time fan of Jerry Goldsmith I'm rather fond of the wackier sounding scores.

And Bernstein always gets my bucks.
