I was just thinking today about the premiere episode of the Young Indiana Jones series and what a phenominal score it had. I really think it is some of Laurence Rosenthal's best work, from the exotic middle-eastern music for the early Egypt scenes, to that fantastic action cue when Indy chases Pancho Villa's gang.

I know Varese released some of the music from later episodes (recorded in Munich), but I'm assuming high re-use fees prevented the inclusion of anything from this first episode (which was recorded by the Skywalker Symphony).

But it would be great if Rosenthal's score for the original priemere got a release someday (hint, hint... )

Agreed, would love a release of this.

I was just listening to Rosenthal's "Return of a Man Called Horse" the other day, great stuff!

BTW... besides McNeely, what other composers worked on the series?

I'm pretty sure Frederic Talgorn wrote a score or two.

I don't think I've seen Young Indy since it first aired, so I don't really remember what the music was like, but I'll check out pretty much any Rosenthal score that comes out. Recently I finally managed to get both The Bourne Identity and Catherine the Great and found them both to be excellent.

I've been wondering lately if there would be any chance for a release of his score to The Brotherhood of the Rose. The two short cues on the 2-disc "Music for Television" set sound pretty cool to me, and being entirely electronic, I'd assume re-use fees wouldn't be a problem.

Another composer on the series was Steve Bramson, who later went onto being the regular composer on J.A.G.
Albeit they're short in length, there are quite a few samples of his Young Indy scores on his website - http://www.stevebramson.com/ found in the music section, under ADVENTURE (2 cuts) and ROMANCE (2 cuts).

Very under appreciated as a composer, Bramson once related to me how much he had enjoyed working on Young Indy and that he was very much let down , and surprised, that his scores weren't released along with McNeely's and Rosenthal's efforts.

It would be great to see this over site corrected with a COMPLETE SCORES release of all the music done for the series. (Heck, why ask for just a little bit of it?) After all, 2008 looks like it'll be an ideal year, and opportunity, to release/re-release all things related to Indian Jones.

Talgorn wrote some of his best stuff for Young Indy Chronicles.... And if there will be a release of more Young Indy music I will be among the first(s) to buy it.... Altough I've never been impressed by singl Rosenthal score in the whole series. McNeely's ATTACK OF THE HAWKMAN on the other hand.... you know
