There's a very good recording conducted by Riccardo Mutti on Sony Classical that has a very good cross section of the composer's output. The Godfather suite is lenghty, and so is The Leopard suite, with absolutely gorgeous performance all around.

As stated above, you might also want to check some Fellini soundtracks on CAM: favorites of mine include Amarcord, Il Casanova and Juliet of the Spirits and Nights of Cabiria. They're still widely available on CAM - with the exception of Nights of Cabiria relased on Legend and OOP - with new digipack releases.

As for Hurricane, it was released on a CD coupled with La Diga sul Pacifico (Legend CD 22), but might now be OOP and hard to find.

Then there's the great score for King Vidor's War and Peace, released on Varèse Sarabande, and sadly OOP.

If you dig scores like Rocco e sui Fratelli and The Godfather, I'd suggest you check out Plein Soleil (Purple Noon), the original Tom Ripley movie starring Alain Delon. Great film noir mood with very folksy, italian overtones. It's available, complete, on the Universal label.

With Doug mentioning the legendary Fellini/Rota collaboration and Juliet of the Spirits, now I'm curious to know what everyone's fav Fellini/Rota score?

Mine is definetely AMARCORD... egads now I've got that famous tune in my head....

I'm rather fond of his score to THE ABDICATION.

It was released on Legend (CD14). I'm not sure if it's easy to come by but it's well worth the effort.

I prefer the original soundtrack of ROMEO, but possibly only because I've lived with it for so long. The re-record is excellent also. Both are recommended.

Favourite Fellini: LA DOLCE VITA; a wonderful amalgam of so many styles - brilliantly put together. I very much like his "Glass Mountain" work also. And how about a re-recording of his TAMING OF THE SHREW which is long overdue.
