Hi!

I've just finished watching the DVD. Movie is really off-beat. But the score by Sir Richard Rodney Bennett is really something. The movie is the last one in the Harry Palmer trilogy, the first one (The IPCRESS File) having been scored by none other than John Barry. But Bennett's score is cut from a whole different cloth.

Looks like there was an LP when the movie was released in 1967 and later on a repressing in the MCA classics soundtracks collection, during the mid-eighties.

My question, to Doug or Roger is: could this soundtrack be released on CD ? Or is it a long shot ?

It's a great score with lot of virtuoso piano writing over the main title sequence, splashes of ondes Martenot and harpsichord for the Françoise Dorléac character. Lots of inventive orchestrations throughout. It's really smashing, truly.

This one's been one my wish list for years now...

Cool score! It's not a long shot for a CD, either. It's a great LP just as it is, too. So a straight re-issue to CD would be welcome! And - no - we don't have any lines on it. I'm just assuming it'd be possible for one of the many soundtrack labels to realize at some point.

Mmmm, I'd LOVE a proper CD of this! Once upon a time a kind soul provided me with a CD transfer of the LP but the source was not one of the most pristine I've ever heard so an upgrade would be a no-brainer for me.

Thanks for your answers! Richard Rodney Bennett is sadly underrepresented on CD. I think Secret ceremony was never released on LP nor CD. It's another wonderful score with haunting, sad theme for celeste and ondes Martenot. And colorful orchestrations to match. And what about Figures in a landscape?

I've just snatched his opera The Mines of Sulphur, for 5 eursos! Anyone listened to this one ?

I remember a member of the FSM board said that the master tapes for Secret Ceremony are lost. It seems that many of his scores for British productions are lost (I would love to the Figures on CD, but I don´t believe in it).

What more can I say than I would love to see a CD of Billion Dollar Brain as well as that of Yanks and -- let's face it -- pretty much any score by Richard Rodney Bennett.

What was the reason for rejecting Before The Devil Knows You're Dead ? Was Sidney Lumet involved in that ?
