WHAT could this BE?

"There is a real Golden Age classic coming from PROMETHEUS from a composer who has passed away quite sometime ago that will appeal to the current generation of fans as we1l.

I just have to crave out the time to finish it up before Mr. Van De Ven kills me for keeping him waiting.

Not enough hours in the day....

Ford A. Thaxton "

1) Golden Age classic (a "real" classic at that)...how many of those are left to be released?

2) composer passed away quite some time ago (so does that rule out Rozsa...it was 12 years ago, but the "quite" makes me think it's more Newman or Friedhofer or Herrmann)

3) will appeal to the current generation of fans (Herrmann then?)

Yeah, I'm pretty excited.

Yavar, you seem to be on to something here. Although the Golden Age "wells" are certainly not empty yet. And certainly my own hunch could be wrong. If it is, I am sure it will still be a superb release, as I haven't purchased anything from Prometheus that wasn't a "good listen".

I'm sure that another timeless score by one of the masters is about to be unveiled. If it is what I think it might be, I should very much like to thank Mr's. Van De Ven and Thaxton for insuring (as always) that our film music horizons are.....expanded, time after time.

I never said the Golden Age wells were empty, but thanks to Doug, Lukas, and others (especially Nick Redman), they certainly are emptier. Most of the "classics" have been released in any case. Now we're primarily down to more obscure music, sometimes of the same high quality as accepted classics. The remaining unreleased classics all have something in the way of their release, it seems. Either lost tapes (El Cid, Quo Vadis, Mark of Zorro, Sun Also Rises, almost anything from United Artists or RKO) or relatively unfriendly studio (Paramount, Universal, etc.) or album rights being held by somebody else.

Of course the Warner Bros. archives just opened up to FSM so that frees up a lot more classic Golden Age scores, but I don't know that Prometheus has access to those now.

Majority of Herrmann stuff should be already covered by other labels and the rest has some problems with the studios (Universal) or masters not available, right?
I really doubt this could be OBSESSION (altough it would be a fantastic release) when it was Universal production. What so important is still lacking its release and could be available?

It might be Newman if there are some masters still available from his Fox period... we'll see... definitelly looks very interesting...

Somehow I think Golden Age Classic is a bit strong of a statement.

Obsession was released by Columbia Pictures, but the soundtrack was released on London/Decca, now merged with Universal Music Group. Licenses would have to be obtained from UMG, unless the rights have lapsed somehow.

The disc mentioned in the post above was ripped from the mono music-only track on the laserdisc.

Perhaps, since Prometheus has mined some past Columbia scores, this might be Golden Age composer Franz Waxman's last major score, THE LOST COMMAND from 1966 (Does that take it out of Golden Age?).

I'm probably wrong, but hope springs eternal.

Intrada, Varèse, Tadlow have done a Rozsa tribute CD... Prometheus is maybe preparing another to add to the jewels released this year ?
