In my case I can remember as a young child in the mid to late 60's hearing my mother and father playing Miklos Rozsa's music from Ben- Hur, King of Kings, and El cid on our old magnivox record player in the living room. I can also recall my dad playing Hugo Montenegro's record with his version of Ennio Morricone's spaghetti western music. Great memories and I think that's a big reason why I like film music today.

Well, my father knew a junk man named Piatte who would show up occasionally in an old station wagon full of odds and ends he had collected over a period of time. We used to buy all kinds of stuff from the guy, once he had some old LPs in his wagon, the soundtrack to Picnic (George Duning) was in the box of records we bought, I loved listening to that recording, I was probably about ten years old at the time. Wasn't until about eight years later when I began buying film music recordings but I've always remembered that LP of Picnic.

I visited a special effects studio when I was 11, and there they were listening to some film music. Back to the Future Part II was playing, and I saw some CDs like Terminator 2 on the shelves. I had no idea we could find those soundtracks on CD. A few time after, I was beginning my collection. ^^

I think it was just loving films & going to see them in the late 50's & 60's. In those far off days there was no VHS/DVD/Blu-ray, a film would do the rounds & then disappear, but if you bought the soundtrack LP you'd have the poster (LP cover) & the music, & there was some great music around at that time. Times have changed & I've got older, & even when the music works for a new movie (which it does a lot of the time), I don't think I'd enjoy it on its own anymore, but I'm always up for a dollop of 50's 60's 70's soundtracks.

I grew up watching alot of tv series and films from the 60s and 70s in the UK. My first soundtrack was in 1977 for a little film called Star Wars. This film opened my eyes to the world of film scores. I wanted to know more about film music. Thanks to the RCA Classic Film Score series, I discovered the great works of Korngold, Steiner and Rozsa, to name but a few.

My mother offering me the LP of E.T., then those of Gremlins and Ghostbusters-- quite a neat start, wasn't it?
That was just because the movies appealed to her (even before seeing them), not because she had any special interest in film music.
Those discs got played a lot; I still have them, of course.

My situation is a simple case of just watching lots of movies and TV shows when growing up, as well as being around and taking a liking to classical and jazz music.

My enthusiasm for film music albums didn't really become very big until the labels started releasing a consistent onslaught of premiere releases, and much needed expansions, for beloved film/TV scores from the 60s, 70s and 80s. While there is plenty more film/TV music that I would like, I can't complain one bit about what I have at this point.
