There used to be an odd double post here. Removed.

My pal Startracks said: "-Another record copy has admitted to pressing more than the limited number to cover lost of defective discs. How many more we will never know. Once the limited number is taken care of, replacing the defective or lost CDs, what happens
to the extras?"

I have never heard a label admitting to pressing more than the limited number to cover lost or defective discs. If this is directed at Kritzerland (because I have said something about lost or defective discs on occasion) let me give it my pal correctly: I have made no secret that we hold back a certain number of CDs (usually 30) out of the 1000 (or whatever the limited number is) in case of emergencies. In other words, we don't press EXTRA discs to cover that - I don't know that anyone else does either, they really wouldn't have to anyway, and here's why and something that most people know (including the studios from whom titles are licensed) - overs. No pressing plant in existence will press exactly the number you order - they ALL contractually can go up to 10% over that number, and you have to take delivery of the overs - it's in the contract with them. I have no idea what the overs situation is at other pressing plants, but our overs normally come in at about 5% - i.e. an extra fifty discs, sometimes less. When that's the case, those become the emergency pile.

Now, out of emergency copies, we usually have to send out five to ten replacement copies thanks to the continuing and growing ineptitude of the USPS. On a couple of titles, it's been over that, shockingly, and on a couple of titles, we haven't had to go into the emergency pile at all. It varies from title to title. That is why I will occasionally go on the boards and tell people that if they missed anything we may or may not have a couple of copies left, available at the regular price. It's really that simple, and it's the same for every label.

Since my pal Startracks won't see this unless someone quotes it, someone quote it. :) I just want to make sure my pal Startracks has all the facts at his fingertips.

I was honestly surprised to find out he is a father of four teenagers, since his behavior here would seem to belie something like that. I mean, here is a man who admits to holding an endless grudge against Kritzerland because he didn't like ONE response I posted on the FSM board several years ago. I have asked repeatedly for him to show everyone here what it is I posted (and Ford, too, since Ford apparently posted something he didn't like in that same thread) so we can all see what it is and decide how bad it was, and I said if I did post something that was rude I would be more than happy to apologize for it or at least explain it if it was being misconstrued. But he doesn't want to do that simple thing, and I think we can probably all figure out why.

Thanks again Roger for helping stir up things!
(It is interesting how the moderators on these message boards
do not like flame wars, but they help bypass the settings that
their sites provide for their posters.)
If Roger and Doug would prefer I do not post on here anymore,
please let me know! I did not start this thread and I put in the
info that I have heard and read over the years.

But, it is interesting how Kimmel thought I was talking about
Kritzerland, was he a little worried that he had to come clean too?
Might have had a little guilty conscious?

Mr. Kimmel, I am not and never will be your pal, so stop it!! I do not hold a
grudge against Kritzerland, it is you I hold the grudge against. You belittle
anyone that does not agree with you or has anything negative to say about
the releases you are involved with. You did it to one of my posts over at FSM,
but you have done it countless time over the years to other posters and you
are just too high and mighty to see it.

So, now on the 2 Kritzerland CDs that I own, I should change them
to limited to 1050? They will look real good now, with names blacked
out and numbers whited out and written back in!

Are you guys serious?????

There are starving children in Africa ("read" bigger problems in the world) and you whine about numbers on CD's.
Well...we all have our problems.

I just had to get that out of my system.

I thought I read that usually a small number, possibly even random, more are pressed, not because of any deceit, but it's the way the pressing plants work. So like 12 extra or something. But I could be misremembering.

Edit: Whoops I see Bruce did indeed say exactly that.

I really don’t understand the obsession some people have with wanting to have a CD for its rarity value. It’s perhaps one thing to have a CD which is actually numbered as one of a limited number – as Varese used to do when they first started their CD Club – but for the packaging to say it’s one of 3,000 is fairly meaningless because every disc is effectively limited in the sense that no label presses an indefinite number; we just don’t normally know what the numbers are. Let’s remember that FSM initially identified their discs as limited to 3,000 simply because that was the number allowed to be pressed under the then reduced rate agreements (since then it seems that pressings can be negotiated to higher levels). It doesn’t appear to have been intended as a sales pitch – which other labels have, intentionally or not, created by restricting pressings to even smaller numbers.

I’m sorry that Douglass Fake in his post above makes public an implied criticism of Lukas Kendall. It’s obvious from what Lukas has said, that he overproduced essentially to avoid going out of business and also because he had a desire to get the music out to as many people as possible. I for one am glad that FSM did not go down the route of creating instant sell-outs which ultimately deprive many soundtrack devotees of the music and surely doesn’t help the long term interest of labels.
