LOL Christian, your Doyle collection is impressive but somehow in the process you have managed to NOT get the two best Doyle scores...

Anyone got any thoughts on the newly released WAH-WAH? This score does indeed remind one of DONNIE BRASCO (which is a score I like a lot, but isn't to everyone's tastes), and also the end of LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST, as far as the stiff-upper-lip English themes go, except that Doyle turns it into something very sad and moving. The long piano suite at the end of the disc is also worthwhile (which sometimes isn't the case with piano suites).

I also read (on Mundo BSO) that Doyle mentioned at an appearance in Barcelona that Varese Sarabande will be releasing AS YOU LIKE IT (I don't know when), but nothing official has been said about it by Varese as far as I know.

Bought WAH WAH this week. Couldn't agree more with you, Ellen. It's a beautiful, melancholic score. Also very elegant, with plenty of beautiful writing for strings, throuhout: a definite Doyle forte. I hope the movie gets released in France, someday. Looking forward to ERAGON, to be sure.

It's available at iTunes now.

It's kind of subdued and seems more "background" than his other Wargnier scores. It's growing on me a little more after a few listens. I'm not sure how others would react to it though. This strikes me as one of those scores of his where ideas from it are going to turn up in his future scores.

In other news, AS YOU LIKE IT is apparently going to be released in the U.S. in August (very limited release, I think). Varese is going to release the score, if I'm not mistaken. (I'm told it is sort of like "MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING goes to Japan.")

Well, judging from the iTunes samples, it's WONDERFUL. This is the Doyle I love. Not Eragon.

So why is this album so expensive (almost 30 bucks) from SAE? Is Varese not releasing this on CD domestically?

Anyone know when "Pars vite..." is due for release Stateside? That'd be as good an indicator as any.

I just downloaded the music from iTunes (EVIL EVIL EEEEEVIL!!!!!!) and can't say enough good things about it so far. I can't think of anything he's done that has sounded like this - very eerie, suspense-y, skincrawlery. "Needful Things" is the only other thing that even comes close but that score was much more overtly rambunctious and good-natured than this. As for a buyer's reference, it reminds me of Jan Kaczmarek's music for "Unfaithful" more than anything else - but without the heavy breathing. It may be too low-key for some listeners but there's much to like here.

I don't know when/if this movie is getting a UK/US release, I suppose it depends on the reviews and how well it does in France. The English title is supposed to be HAVE MERCY ON US ALL but then I've seen other references to it being called SEEDS OF DEATH (which is a truly awful title).

But in any case you can always get it from iTunes, and for a lot cheaper than Colosseum...

Wasn't there a Doctor Who story arc called "Seeds of Death" back in the late '60s? Perhaps they're attempting some kind of cross-promotional thing?
