Composed around the same time as BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI, INN OF THE SIXTH HAPPINESS, THE ROOTS OF HEAVEN and THE KEY, this robust score is curiously little known. It isn't an overly lengthy score, but anyone who favours Walton's unused BATTLE OF BRITAIN, would without doubt also find this score appealing. Studio Canal seems to have the current rights: I wonder if they also own the rights to another movie scored by Malcolm Arnold, SKY WEST AND CROOKED. (Not only was the title changed in the U.S. to GYPSY GIRL, but Arnold's charming score was seemingly replaced by the work of Milton and Anne Delugg, if we are to believe the credits on the Mainstream soundtrack LP.)
