It's a small thing, but I'd like to have the 30-40 seconds of the End Title for TEMPLE OF DOOM that interpolates Short Round's theme with the Raiders March. Incredible that with two long cues newly available from the end of the film on cd, that short little segment didn't make the cut. Grrrrr...

The montage theme from A Goofy Movie. The soundtrack album placed a lot of emphasis on the vocal stuff (nothing wrong with the vocals, I love the Powerline songs), but only included a scant few selections from the score, and the jazzy travel music from the montage is left out entirely. Back in 1995 when I first got the OST, I expected this cue to be on there, no ifs, ands or buts. It HAD to be a shoo-in, I was so sure! And while I can't say I was disappointed with the album as a whole, the absence of that cue really let me down. I've always thought it's just about the catchiest, most incredible theme for a montage ever - I mean, it makes you want to get up and dance! Why not include it on a CD that puts so much emphasis on danceable music?

I'm guessing this thread is supposed to be about cues that didn't make the cut for existing albums, but I'd also like to give mention to my favorite Ron Jones cue from DuckTales. I don't know what its name is (though my fan-given title for it, which I use in my , is "Out From Under Our Feet"), but it was written for the scene in "Treasure of the Golden Suns" in which Scrooge, Launchpad and Donald escape from the Andes with the natives in hot pursuit. We're treated to this incredible, rousing chase music as Launchpad flies the mechanical condor through the maze of cliffs, Donald escaping death by a hair numerous times, while Joaquin Slolee's troops give chase atop condors of their own (live ones). And the best part about this cue is, whoever was in charge of music selection had the sense to make this one something of a series staple, so it gets reused in other episodes. Its most effective appearance, I think, is two episodes later when Scrooge and El Capitan start fighting over the gold in the valley while the temple they're in falls apart around them.

I have one from Star Trek Into Darkness (very recent).

The cue where the father gets the magic blood from Harrison, then walks into the "archive", drops the ring in the glass, and all goes boom.

This is a great cue that goes from the "desperate father" theme, and morphs it into Harrison's theme.

I'll cite a great missing-in-action cue from Morricone's FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE: the version of the "Vice of Killing" theme that underscores the bank-robbery getaway.

And since we've already seen two different OST expansions of ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, why don't Morricone and RCA finally give us the film edit of that cue for the final duel? It's only been 45 years.

I vaguely remember, when the CD was being produced (Silva Screen did it with a link-up to the Goldsmith Society) that Joel Goldsmith searched everywhere for this piece, but could not locate it anywhere!
My guess would be that Goldsmith did it late in the day (maybe at an extra, 11th hour session) when the End Title song ran a bit short, so it's hidden elsewhere or lost to the ages.
So sad. For such a short piece, it's incredible how much Goldsmith emotes into it.

On the subject of songs, while not really a "grail," I was quite disappointed that the otherwise fantastic Sudden Impact CD (well, minus the loudness issues that plague some of the label's releases) could not include "This Side of Forever" sung by Roberta Flack with music by Schifrin.
