I suspect they had Music+Effects mixes done, where the sound effects and other audio were already mixed together to be balanced with dialog.

I think they simply expanded the mono tracks to simulate the 5.1 mix. It's probably not true 5.1.

So while those cues are there in the episodes, there were sound effects also in the mix, and it would be impossible to separate the effects from the original score.

Since many of the tracks on Vols. 2, 3 & 4 are monaural, I've been considering importing the monaural tracks to iTunes with "Mono" import settings, in order to save storage space. However, in careful listening and switching back and forth from mono to stereo during playback, it sounds as if these monaural tracks have been given a very slight stereo enhancement on the CDs. So now I'm wondering if I'm actually getting further from the original mono by mixing to back to mono from the slightly enhanced stereo, or if I'm getting closer to the original mono.
